So now as Ian Brown would say...I've got the fear.

Very weird times right now.
Met a girl a week ago, chilled for a bit.Skipped work to hang out on a Friday , all very well and good.
Texts me in a very friendly manner and says we should meet up but....we haven't.
And now she's gone skiing. I'm confused.

So I'm out on Saturday with my "homies" in rí rá officially the happiest club on earth, where I've been going on and off for about 8 years now and never had any hassle...ever
That's saying a lot for Dublin.

There 's no other place that I've gone to that consistently here at all, and anywhere that would come close has had its fair share of nights where some gobshite started on us or almost did.
But that never happens in rí rá's right?
WRONG.

Dude starts hitting on "S" on the dancefloor, she's cool but she don't like him.Fair enough.He muscles in a bit more.
I get the signal to be "pretend-boyfriend-man" for a tad to get rid of the loser.

Said loser shows me his index finger. I marvel at the craftwork.

"A" points out that he may have just been showing me his wedding ring.For some reason (I wasn't that drunk!) this seems to make sense.
I give him the benefit of the doubt.Happy vibes reign again.

Then I get to see the craftwork on 4 of his fingers as I get a classic double V formation.
I'm not liking where this is going.I don't have to put up with this kind of shit here

That's for other nights out.

Nothing actually happens as the loser moves off, but again, this kind of thing has NEVER happened in this club. I head to the bar to get a drink.
BAM! Strike two as some dude starts arguing with the barman over the price of a fucking cranberry juice!He's almost ready to climb over the bar and punch barkeeps lights out!

I'm beginning to see a pattern emerge.
I'm on my guard for the rest of the night but nothing really happens.

I forget that "bad" things always happen in threes.

As I didn't drink too much on Saturday night I am able to get up and enjoy the glorious spring Sunday morning.
Seems like a good day to drag out the ole rollerblades. Get a head start on the summer as it were.

Rotate the wheels and everything in prep for a summer of blading to work perhaps.
So I'm about 10 minutes from the flat when I realise that I've left the only protection I have, a pair of wrist guards back on the couch.

"No biggie" I think , "I'm good enough now not to fall"
Hit some rumble strips.
Fall
As I get up I notice the balance is a little off on my right boot.

Upon closer inspection it turns out that when I fell, my foot somehow landed in such a way that the side of my ankle hit the ground first, completely cracking the entire fucking boot in the process!
AARRGGHH.
I've had these boots since '98.
Now I have to go into a shop full of 18 year old and get a new pair.

Oh ....and then I caught a cold, had terrible nightmares and missed a days work without actually being able to enjoy it

I tell you once I get through tomorrow I'm climbing into bed until Monday.

Just back from Stockholm.
Bloody cold over there.
Couldn't sleep very well on Tuesday night, think I'm still living on holiday time where I go to sleep at 3 or 4 in the morning.

During the hours of tossing and turning my mind reeled with all sorts of things.
The result of which is that I finally went for my first Jog of 2006.

Felt great....for about five minutes until I realized I'd left the pedometer I'd bought last Saturday at home.
AARRGGH.

I hadn't realised how much TV scheduling effects me.

I'm being serious here.

Over the Christmas holidays, none of the usual scheduling was in play.Plus there was loads of free time to do nothing.
Now I'm back to work, the TV listings are back to normal (If you can call some of the rubbish on TV "normal") and I'm drifting back into a routine of sitting in front of the box, watching one show after the other and then the night is over and its time for bed.

Luckily there a have been a few Christmas leftovers that have bled into this week, two of which were on Thursday, three men and a boat..never mind the dog and Ricky Gervais meets...Larry David.

Just by being a little bit different from the normal muck these shows really relaxed me on Thursday evening.Torrent them if you can.

The three men in a boat also really reminded me of the time some friends and I went boating on the Shannon in what Rory McGrath would have no doubt referred to as a "gin palace", a cruiser where we booze...er.

Think i might try and get a gang together and go again this year.
We had a really nice time last time,which is nearly two years ago now.

One of the things that got me thinking about writing this blog again was a political controversy that broke before Christmas regarding our
Minister for Justice Michael McDowell and a journalist and director of the Irish Centre for Public Inquiry, Frank Connolly

There is a long history to this, some of which can be found at RTE News and I've found a good summary at Gavins blog.

Essentially the Minister under Dáil privilege (he's protected from libel) accused Mr Connolly of travelling to Columbia on a false passport to train rebels or some such.

Now I don't have any axe to grind with the Minister, and I'm afraid I'm not terribly acquainted with Mr Connolly but what really bugs me is the refusal of Irish politicians to answer questions that aren't particularly digging at dirt but actually relate to their actual fucking job.

On Newstalk (and on later news programs) the minister basically refused to talk about the issue without being protected from libel via Dail privelige.
He has also since refused to talk about this.

No charges from the Director of Public Prosecutions have been forthcoming either, so the Minister basically bad-mouthed someone and then let it go?
And now refuses to talk about it?

It doesn't help that the minister also apparently "leaked" the story to a single newspaper ( instead of all Irish newspapars) which also apparently isn't a major fan of Mr Connolly, (Irish journalism although a pretty small field is rife with petty squabbles)

I mean if there was anything to these allegations surely they should have been taken up by the police by now, and if there wasn't enough evidence to go on for a criminal investigation , whey the hell should the minister accuse him of doing anything wrong..

The minister has since fallen back upon some excuse about doing it for the safety of the country, but imagine if the minister had accused someone of being a paedophile would it be as easily forgotten?

I don't think that his life is under as much threat of being destroyed in the same way, but what's to stop the minister from making an allegation like this again in the future?

Whoops... a little insomnia after the chrimbo holidays (have get up for wortk in approximately 5 hours 26 minutes) , I chance upon this blog linked from Barbeblogs, and its not far down a list that includes such luminaries as Tom Coates founder of Barbelith along with a lot of other peeps who have a huge web prescence these days.

So it is with great honour ( and in a slightly sleepy state ) I re-activate this blog!!!

lookign at the last date its been just under two years exactly since I edited so here's a quick recap....

*moved into a big old cold house with a load of mates from college (yay!)
* had a bit of a laugh (yay)
* girlfriend moved in to cramped bedroom (yay!)
* housemates not too happy
* a year passes
* Went to China (fuck yeah!)
* Moved into sweet apartment with girlfriend (yay!)
* get a promotion(Yay!)

* break up with girlfriend (boo!)
* Mope (boo!)
* Chrimbo (yay!)
* Can't sleep due to impending stress of going back to work after nearly three week break for christmas and so in a fit of boredom/inspiration re-open livejournal account.(um..like whatever)

Oh and since last post, I've kind of gone off Damien Rice...;-)

No dead, just lazy.
Had a great christmas.Got freat pressies.I am now back in the console arms race but unfortunately I am also "Microsofts bitch" TM.Got an Xbox.Didn't sleep.Finished Halo.Now I have to put up with the other guys in the house wanting to play four player dtath match ALL THE TIME.It didn't use to ben so bad last week but now I am beginning to LOSE games!!!obviously this is not acceptable.
Had a nice quiet New years in the hoaus with the girlfirend lovely.But then again that's not what this is all about is it.
I 'va got to be readable in this damn thing.

Went to see Damien Rice at the Red Hot Music Club in newbridge too.That was fantastic.He really is great live.The realxed feel of the music, the unplugged feel of the venue(basically a small function room) made this a fantastic evening.The last time I saw the guy was at dublin castle, so It was great to see hime in a smaller venue.
Saw gangs of new York last sunday too.Very good, but I doubt it will go in my top ten. Mental not, if I ever bump into daniel day lewis, RUN LIKE HELL.What with his adhering to the method an all , I woukldn't be too sure he managed to purge all of the charcter of butcher bill.
God this is shite.Neil gaiman said(or references) that if you want to be a writer then write.Yuo wouldn't know that I'm out of practice would you....

Got a mail from MCD.ie saying I'd won a spot on the guestlist.Guess I must have subscribed to their mailer a while ago around wttness time.
There I go thinkng "oohh guestlist!, Aren't I important." Turns out half the audience was there on the guestlist!There was even a seperate door with TWO people checking names.There goes that ego boost.
Intoduced the g/f to the Lord of the Rings yesterday.She thought it was good .All her Chinese friends fell asleep during it.though, but she did think that that might have sometyhing to do with cultural differences and the fact that I explained what the hell was going on.F'rinstance they had no idea why the cast were all different SIZES haveuing never heard of a Hobbit, Dwarf, Elf or Orc before.
D'oh!
Still I hate it when people give running commentaries during a movie, especially when that person is me.

I heard the "new material" song from nirvana last night.A tfirst I thought this was big corporate cash in time(which it is) but still, listening to it on the bus.,,,It was like old times with a friend who has gone away.
Saw one of the few films to scare me witless on tuesday."The Eye" is amazing.As scary as "Ring" How do these asian filmmakers manage to do it so well when over here we get Halloween resurrection!!!
That sadi say "28 days later" last night too.Was a bit of a let downafter the previous scare but was an ok movie.I really didn't like the digital vidoe look though.Rabid people attacjk looks abit like NYPD blue camera man attack.
been to the cinema a LOAD lately.Which is of course a good thing.

Ah, another weekend over.
Nothing happened,Beginning to get worried.It seems that my class from college was granted two years reprive from the usual splitting up that goes on after college.All my closest friends remained in dublin and we saw each other nearly as much as we did while in college, which is a pretty good feat.Lately though people seem to be flaking away.Off to nicer climes or better prospects.No onew came out this weekend and I felt pretty lost./I went out with my girflriend and of course that was nice but I really enjoy the ciompany of my frienf s and I guess I've been neglecting them lately while I cemented my relationship with Annie.Theres' a bank holiday next weekend anyways so hopeully we'll all get together at LEAST once.
Week is already beginning to fill up .Maybe it was just the sumer that had all my friends doing their own thing.So far gort two invites to the cinema one invite for diner and I have some other things I have to squeeze in as well.A dd in the fact that My app in work is live and having probelms and it leads to a damn hectic life for the next little while.

It's pretty depressing all round here right now.Working late to make up time.It's as dark as anything outside.The long summer nights are fading from memory already.
I suppose I'll be going out with annie tonight.I 've been thinking back to when we started going out... it didn't seem so ..childish then.Maybe I'm just being mr grumpy.I need some time to myself this weekend.I've been rushing from one thing to another this week.I need some more control on the down hill rush.

Bought the new ash
Int43rgalactic sonic 7's album at the weekend.They always sound so good on the radio but I can't really get into the album.Hmmmmn.Lovre the artwork on it though.Done by Drewamwave
Muchg prefer the weezer albums I bought last week.Less sacharrine I guess.
Finally met the landlord and got my deposit back off ,y old flat.Handed the key sin.It didn't look to bad once I'd done all the cleaning(emphasis on the ME!)Flaytmate really should have doen more.Fecker.
A lot happened in that flat over the two years.Good memories.Handing in the keys was a little weird.I just hope that the new house (once I stop living in the attic) turns out to be as good, and that my stay turns out as long.
MUST go to the cinema this week.And sleep.oh yeah, I'd forgotten that i neede to do that quite frequently

Mundy says "lifes just a cinch" and I used to berlieve hime.But lately mine has taken a turn formthe more stressful.After the shenaigans of last week, (chilli's rocked by the way miss them at your peril, although Boo to landsdowne for finidshing the gig at 10.30!!!) I thpoughthtings would settle down a bit.NO!
Got a Huuge project of the CEO of my compnay,who constatntly calls over to my desk to check my progress (STRESS!) every one i know seems to want to go out with me this saturday, (but my heart already belongs to Tenacious D that evening.
My Flat mate is constanttly trying to set me up with a beaultiful girl(ok no complaints there but it's thew lack of subtlety that bothers me along with the rerally bad timing!) and I have a psycho in spoain who I have to keep emailing!

Well now, not too different a weekend than I'd planned.Relaxed, went to whelans for some good ole indie hopping arouind like a lunatic.Kneck hurt all weekend after headbanging.Ouch!
The date turned out to be a bit of a psycho.She was going to spain on tuesday but wouldn't be in towwn until saturday.then it was monday.Then late monday.Then she rang me late(real late!) on sunday and blubbered down the phone at me like a crazy person.This is someone I have met once.She seems to be loading a lot of emotional baggade on this relationship mule.
Still she was nice.And she really wants me to stay in touch.The last few months have been weird(compared to the normal weirdness of what went on before that is)
Oh and now I'm almost sure that I'm in love with my flatmates ex, who I knew before I knew him, just to clear that up.
And I'm not sure but I think she's feels....i dunno, something.I really need to get out more.
And stop drinking so goddamned much, I seem to turn into an intorspective worry wart when I'm hungover these days.
